Thanksgiving

Does anyone know what they are going to do for the holidays yet.  It's sneaking up on us pretty soon.

Yep, my son and I are going up to PA for Thanksgiving, don't know what my youngest granddaughter is doing, she can come with us but she does not like traveling.

Re: Thanksgiving

Are you going to see your sister?  How about the oldest granddaughter?

Re: Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a quiet affair. It will be just my sister and I. I have cat and her family for Christmas and new years this year. So I dont see the need for a huge turkey. We'll probably just make a turkey breast since neither one of us like dark meat. Christmas I'll have a big dinner. Probably ham and new years I'll serve prime rib.

Re: Thanksgiving

We will probably go to my MIL's as usual.  Then I will have to listen to my sister bitch about not going to her house too, but we are not doing that anymore.  We are only doing one house at Holidays.  God Forbid his family or my sister and her family dare to drive anywhere.  It drives me nuts.

Re: Thanksgiving

Nip.....I don't think my oldest granddaughter is coming to Virginia for Thanksgiving, she is coming home for Christmas.  She is back in school for her Master's Degree and working full time so she is very busy.

Re: Thanksgiving

My friends invited to their place.  They usually eat later in the day, so I will go down here and sample of the goodies they will have here starting at 11 AM.   They always have a very nice Holiday dinner.  Then you can order a "box lunch" for the evening meal, as the DR closes so the staff can go home for their dinner.

Re: Thanksgiving

When you first posted this I was never going to eat again so I didn't answer, lol.  Our Thanksgiving were always big affairs with the whole family together and a great deal of fun. My cousins and I put a few skit on to entertain - eeek, when my parents passed I found the scripts, what a hoot. There aren't many of us left but my short answer is that I will do the whole dinner even if I am the last one standing. Not for the food, but for the memories. Trying to sneak a piece of turkey while my dad was carving it (danger!) discussions  about how much spice in the apple pies etc. It doesn't make me sad - it makes me smile.

Re: Thanksgiving

I always enjoyed Thanksgiving as a kid.  The early morning smells as you said.  Mom would put on her Johnny Mathis record "We Need a Little Christmas" real loud to wake us all up.  We would watch a few parades on TV and then the chores began.  I always had to set the table and help with making the dressing (stuffing).  It was always a fun day and all the Christmas Movies started on late night TV (WTBS) like White Christmas and It's A Wonderful Life.  Good memories.

Re: Thanksgiving

My whole family would end up at Grandparents house and all help with the meal, that was about 5 families, we all had a ball with fond memories.

Re: Thanksgiving

Oh  Nip, waking up to Johnny Mathis - how fun!

Wonderful memories, all the aunts & uncles came to our house and I got old enough to realize that Santa Claus would soon be coming and I'd be on my best behavior.
